Broke Ass Drifters

Found this on Youtube today:

Although these guys used old, beat-up junkers, they have pretty good skills, the chokudori was pretty damn good!

On another note, this afternoon, I went to the touge with Boy as my passenger. It was raining heavily, at around 6pm. I wasn't really confident drifting on long, winding corners in the wet(coz I have really bad front tires), but with Boy's help, I held really really long lines, drifting in my own lane, yay!!!

Now I can't wait to go back for more!

Damn, this shit is addictive!

May 18th Track Day: In-car camera from EG6 B16B

Courtesy of Boy aka Tougekid:

Thanks to everyone who participated, it was great fun!

Touge Drift

I didn't feel so happy today coz I got ripped RM400 by the authorities due to a minor "modification."

There was only one way to to make me feel better, which was to go up the touge:

Thanks to Boy aka Tougekid for risking his life :P, I got the footage below:

I could drift at the touge but I was really scared of oncoming traffic, so I held a rather conservative line and maintained a lower speed, how I wished one day, we could close the road for full-lane drifting...

Time for some fun:

[The three of us, Jeremy (Satria), Yeap (Wira), and I(White KE70), met at the BMW Instructor Academy, and all three of us are still buddies coz of the love we have for high performance driving.]

May 18th Track Day

Finally, the long awaited track day is here! I woke up at around 6am to walk the dogs. Then, S and I got ready, and we drove our cars out to McDonald's, to meet up with the rest of the gang. We got to the track around 8.30am, and started to set up the track, once that was done, we started our drivers' meeting:

After going through the usual safety routines, everyone was assigned into a group, and the drift group was out first. I had a great time drifting my KE70:

Too bad the rear left tire had to give way:

After changing the tire, I went drifting again, this time, however, things didn't go too well:

I tried to execute a feinto-drift at the 3rd gear S-corner, but my car suddenly understeered towards the tire barrier... FUCK!!!!!! Luckily, the damage was minimal, with the front lip being the only "casualty" of this accident. Oh, I gotta thank Dennis and the gang too, as they helped got my stuck car out of the sand:

(Stuck...)

(tying a rope to the tow hook...)

(they towed me out, yay!)

And I was drifting again:

The damage:

(Luckily the front lip wasn't in pieces, it just cracked... The bodyshop should be able to repair the lip with ease.)

ZTH came for coverage as well, I met Adam, Tom, and a beautiful girl (I forgot her name, sorry). They came in style, in a pristine E46 M3 CSL:

Adam wanted to record a footage of me on the track, so we played chase, here's a vid, recorded by Andrew with my phone:

Andrew had lots of fun driving his silver banana on track, unfortunately, something went wrong with his engine, and it died on him. We had to get the car towed. Here's a pic of the silver banana:

At around 3.30pm, we had our 1.6L mini race, courtesy of Red Line, Ultra Racing, and Autoria Toyota, the top 3 cars will receive goodies from them. Here are some pics from the 1.6L Mini race:

We leave 0730hours SHARP. Don't be late!

3 years together

Today is the 17th of May, 2008.

What's so special about it?

Well, it's our anniversary... S and I have "tolerated" each other for 3 years:

KE70 Mod day 3: Stickers & Cameraman

It's not really a mod per se, but Ben of Autoria Toyota (my friend and sponsor), personally got the Franken70 stickered today:

(front lip with stickers)

Oh, I also got a 1kg fire extinguisher (ABC) for the car:

(Anyone needs one of these? My friend here sells them for RM70 each...)

A Singapore media company is gonna do a documentary on what we do, so the gang met up with Kev and Wendy tonight. Kev got the camera rolling while Boy and I drifted in an industrial park, too bad Boy went in too hot (3rd gear, 140km/h) and crashed:

(You gotta hand it to Boy, he had guts to push the limits! RESPECT!)

The damage wasn't serious, he probably bent some suspension parts, a rim, etc.. We hope to get the car running again tomorrow. Here's a pic of Kev doing his work:

(Lek and Boy in the background...)

We called it a night after Boy's mishap... Cheer up bro, you and your car will be fine!

Cameron Highlands Touge: Franken70 Test Run

I picked Han up this morning and went up the touge in the Franken70. The car has expired old tires both in the front and rear. We ran lots of camber in the front to eliminate understeer and to promote a tail-happy ride up the touge :P

Although I shifted between 7000rpm - 7500 rpm (full powerband was 11,500rpm), it was already scary for me, as I am still not 100% with the movement of the car. I love this car though, it was very exciting to drive, and I can improve my skills through the Franken70.

Here's a vid of us not going full blast, but just testing the feel of the car(NOTE: I just updated this video, the previous video was not compressed properly):

I was completely satisfied with the car once we reached the checkpoint, it was exhilarating to drive! This time, I didn't pull over for the same old pics from the same old place, instead, I cruised a little higher up for a different view:

Closer:

Much closer:

Going out to get some work done, see you guys later!

Happy 21st Lai Kuan!

It was Kuan's 21st birthday, unfortunately, S had to teach, so Han, Kuan, Boy, PY, and I went for steamboat/barbecue:

(Han and his wife, Kuan)

After the steamboat, we went to pick S up to go for a drink with the gang at Kopitiam. Once we got there, we decided to bring out the cake:

The happy couple:

(Birthday girl with her HUSBAND, yes, HUSBAND!)

Birthday girl made a wish and blew the candles:

Here's PY wanting to turn back the clock:

(What do you think?)

After we cut the cake and stuffed ourselves full, it was time to go home...

Good night, everybody!

KE70 Mod day 2: Front lip+Painting Roll Cage+Fluids

It was another busy day for Han and I... This morning, we went to pick up the front lip from the courier company, as well as purchased the crank pulley oil seal(mine leaked a little)... Once we got back, Han immediately spray painted the front lip in black:

Once that was done, we left it in the sun:

And Han worked on the crank pulley oil seal:

It was a piece of cake for Han:

Han breezed through the oil seal replacement, and we started spray painting the cage:

Using this paint, which we loved:

The product:

(It was kinda black but kinda silver... I loved the color!)

We then picked up the dried front lip and went over to Ping's bodyshop for a quick installation:

(Ping installing the front lip)

After that was done, we roamed around town running errands, getting tires mounted on spare rims, installed a horn into the Franken70, and then, we decided to change the transmission fluid and the LSD oil:

(I run Red Line 75W90 in the tranny and 80W140 for the LSD)

When I bought this car, it wasn't easy shifting into reverse. In fact, I cringed everytime I had to shift into reverse, coz it either refused to go in, or it went in with a grind... After the Red Line 75W90 went in, the shift into reverse was effortless. I am telling you this, not because I am a Red Line dealer, but I am also a believer of what I sell. Red Line makes good oil. I still remember my AW11 MR2 in Vancouver that would refuse to shift into first during cold winter mornings. Once I switched over to Red Line, the shift was silky smooth. Yes, it was that good!

After changing the fluids, we gave the Franken70 a good wash:

Here it is looking shiny (too bad lighting sucked):

I love the new look with the front lip. Too bad Jeya couldn't make it back tonight, otherwise I would have had round lights on the car...

KE70 mod Day 1: Exhaust+Roll Cage+Tires

9am this morning, Han and I were at Choong's exhaust shop, in which he helped installed the 5Zigen ProRacer on the Franken70:

BTW, great news everyone, I left the center bullet on this time, so my car doesn't sound excessively noisy :P

After we were done with the exhaust install, Han and I headed over to Keong's shop, after a long discussion on the predicament of bringing a 10 feet tube from Keong's shop to another shop for bending, all three of us decided to just head over to the shop... On our way there, a turbocharged 2.0L Proton Saga wanted to play, goddamn, the Franken70 smoked the shit of the turbo saga with 3 guys (including myself) in the car!

Once there, we were relieved to know that they also have the same grade of tube that we wanted to use, Keong began his measurements immediately:

Once the measurements were taken, we brought the tube to the bender:

The main hoop is the most important component of a half cage, so everyone was extra careful:

We did the two upper bends at 71 degrees:

After we were done with bending the main hoop, it was time to go back to Keong's shop for some welding:

(First up was the base plate...)

And then Keong started welding:

Once the base plate was welded, Keong started welding the main hoop:

Main hoop in:

Once the main hoop was in, Keong welded 2 rear support bars, as well as a diagonal bar to further reinforce the half cage:

It was damn hot in the afternoon, kudos to Keong for a great job under the sun! After we were done with the roll cage, we paid Kong the tire-man a visit:

I bought 4 pieces of used Falken tires from him, I put 2 of them in front, and used 2 of my old tires in the rear. Then, Han and I went to Hill City for traction testing :P The weather was hot, the road was dry, and yet, I drifted and connected many corners without much effort, using only my fav drift-initiation technique, feinto-drift :) It was amazing what a properly set-up drift car could do :P

I missed the courier today so I gotta go pick up the front lip tomorrow morning. I'll be doing the front lip install tomorrow, and I gotta replace a leaking oil seal.

Stay tuned :)
