KE70 mod Day 1: Exhaust+Roll Cage+Tires

9am this morning, Han and I were at Choong's exhaust shop, in which he helped installed the 5Zigen ProRacer on the Franken70:

BTW, great news everyone, I left the center bullet on this time, so my car doesn't sound excessively noisy :P

After we were done with the exhaust install, Han and I headed over to Keong's shop, after a long discussion on the predicament of bringing a 10 feet tube from Keong's shop to another shop for bending, all three of us decided to just head over to the shop... On our way there, a turbocharged 2.0L Proton Saga wanted to play, goddamn, the Franken70 smoked the shit of the turbo saga with 3 guys (including myself) in the car!

Once there, we were relieved to know that they also have the same grade of tube that we wanted to use, Keong began his measurements immediately:

Once the measurements were taken, we brought the tube to the bender:

The main hoop is the most important component of a half cage, so everyone was extra careful:

We did the two upper bends at 71 degrees:

After we were done with bending the main hoop, it was time to go back to Keong's shop for some welding:

(First up was the base plate...)

And then Keong started welding:

Once the base plate was welded, Keong started welding the main hoop:

Main hoop in:

Once the main hoop was in, Keong welded 2 rear support bars, as well as a diagonal bar to further reinforce the half cage:

It was damn hot in the afternoon, kudos to Keong for a great job under the sun! After we were done with the roll cage, we paid Kong the tire-man a visit:

I bought 4 pieces of used Falken tires from him, I put 2 of them in front, and used 2 of my old tires in the rear. Then, Han and I went to Hill City for traction testing :P The weather was hot, the road was dry, and yet, I drifted and connected many corners without much effort, using only my fav drift-initiation technique, feinto-drift :) It was amazing what a properly set-up drift car could do :P

I missed the courier today so I gotta go pick up the front lip tomorrow morning. I'll be doing the front lip install tomorrow, and I gotta replace a leaking oil seal.

Stay tuned :)

alvinT,
Thanks, our crew is in Ipoh.

shawn,
I suggest you define your objectives, then, perhaps you will know the question to your answer. All in all, the KE70 is a very good car, reliable and cheap to maintain. If you can't find any good one, lemme know, I can hook you up :)

Dennis,
When Choy's friend told me that my engine can rev to 12,000 rpm, I was out of words... He asked me if I wanted him to open the rev up, I was tempted but I decided to stay with 8000rpm...

tankae92,
I know man, we all spend too much on our cars :(
